Why the lowest Landau level approximation works in strongly type

چکیده

Higher than the lowest Landau level contributions to magnetization and specific heat of superconductors are calculated using Ginzburg Landau equations approach. Corrections to the excitation spectrum around solution of these equations (treated perturbatively) are found. Due to symmetries of the problem leading to numerous cancellations the range of validity of the LLL approximation in mean field is much wider then a naive range and extends all the way down to H = Hc2(T ) 13 . Moreover the contribution of higher Landau levels is significantly smaller compared to LLL than expected naively. We show that like the LLL part the lattice excitation spectrum at small quasimomenta is softer than that of usual acoustic phonons. This enhanses the effect of fluctuations. The mean field calculation extends to third order, while the fluctuation contribution due to HLL is to one loop. This complements the earlier calculation of the LLL part to two loop order.

Skyrmion physics beyond the lowest Landau-level approximation

The effects of Landau-level mixing and finite thickness of the two-dimensional electron gas on the relative stability of Skyrmion and single spin-flip excitations at Landau-level filling factor n51 have been investigated. Landau-level mixing is studied by fixed-phase diffusion Monte Carlo, and finite thickness is included by modifying the effective Coulomb interaction. Both Landau-level mixing ...

Neutrino Propagation in a Strongly Magnetized Medium

We derive general expressions at the one-loop level for the coefficients of the covariant structure of the neutrino self-energy in the presence of a constant magnetic field. The neutrino energy spectrum and index of refraction are obtained for neutral and charged media in the strong-field limit (MW ≫ √ B ≫ me, T, μ, |p|) using the lowest Landau level approximation. The results found within the ...

Tilt Modulus and Angle-Dependent Flux Lattice Melting in the Lowest Landau Level Approximation

For a clean high-Tc superconductor, we analyze the Lawrence-Doniach free energy in a tilted magnetic field within the lowest Landau level (LLL) approximation. The free energy maps onto that of a strictly c-axis field, but with a reduced interlayer coupling. We use this result to calculate the tilt modulus C44 of a vortex lattice and vortex liquid. The vortex contribution to C44 can be expressed...

Testing the Ginzburg-Landau approximation for three-flavor crystalline color superconductivity

It is an open challenge to analyze the crystalline color superconducting phases that may arise in cold dense, but not asymptotically dense, three-flavor quark matter. At present the only approximation within which it seems possible to compare the free energies of the myriad possible crystal structures is the Ginzburg-Landau approximation. Here, we test this approximation on a particularly simpl...

Langevin vortex dynamics for a layered superconductor in the lowest-Landau-level approximation

We have numerically investigated the dynamics of vortices in a clean layered superconductor placed in a perpendicular magnetic field. We describe the energetics using a Ginzburg-Landau free-energy functional in the lowest-Landau-level approximation. The dynamics are determined using the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau approximation, and thermal fluctuations are incorporated via a Langevin term. ...
